SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Single Joint Experts – A New Balance in Singapore’s New Civil Procedure? (29 March 2022, 5.00pm - 6.30pm (GMT +8))
LOCATION:Zoom Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Webinar Synopsis\nThe new Rules of Court which will take effect from 1 Apri
l 2022 stipulate as a general rule that “as far as possible”, parties must
agree on one common expert”.  This procedural change envisages a new Single
Joint Expert (“SJE”) that has already been well recognised in other leadin
g jurisdictions.\nConsidering past judicial critiques on a few expert battl
es that saw more heat than light, will this new hybrid result in a new type
of expert that trumps all other experts? Will this in turn lead to a new b
alance in litigation that cures the mischief underlying this reform in the
civil justice reform reports heralding this change? What happens if one par
ty wishes to challenge an SJE’s report? Related to that, practical question
s arise for consideration on how the new procedure and process is likely to
work (including modalities for questioning in court).\nTo illuminate conce
pt and share practical tips on the new “common expert” or single joint expe
rt, an expert panel comprising lawyers as well as experts who have acted as
SJEs outside Singapore will share their insights and wisdom with attendees
