DESCRIPTION:Course Synopsis\nThis webinar seeks to provide an introduction to the world
  of Experts and expert evidence and will examine the role of evidence in di
 sputes resolution, both in the courts and before other tribunals such as ar
 bitral tribunals.  Participants will be acquainted with the law relating to
  opinion evidence (expert testimony), the role of experts in dispute resolu
 tion and the relevant Singapore law applicable to expert evidence.\nThis we
 binar will be useful for those who come from a technical background and has
  aspirations of acting as an expert witness.  It would also provide a ‘basi
 c refresher’ for those who are already practising as expert witnesses.\nThe
  webinar is in two parts.  The first part will be a lecture but with an int
 eractive element so that participants may ask questions and discuss relevan

 nt Dean of the School of Law at the Singapore University of Social Sciences
 .  He has practiced law in one form or another for over 4 decades.  He was 
 appointed Senior Counsel in 2000.  In 2007 he was appointed a judge in the 
 State Courts where he remained until his retirement in 2014.  At the State 
 Courts he was the Senior District Judge leading the Civil Justice Division.
   He retired from the judiciary in 2014. Upon his retirement from the Singa
 pore Legal Service, he returned to law practice. Currently, he is a Senior 
 Consultant at RHT Law Asia LLP.  He has an active practice as an arbitrator
  in International Commercial Arbitrations. Mr. John Gibson – Director of As
 ia, Marine Engineer, Brookes Bell SingaporeMr. John Gibson was at sea for t
 wenty years before joining the Brookes Bell in 1996. He is a Chartered Engi
 neer, with a Master’s degree, and since 2001 John has been a partner at Bro
 okes Bell. An expert in his field, John uses his extensive consultancy and 
 investigative experience to provide comprehensive assessments of marine and
  offshore casualties and disputes. The type of investigations John conducts
  are as diverse as they are thorough. As a member of the Institution of Fir
 e Engineers John also reports on fatal and non-fatal fires. John has provid
 ed technical evidence for court proceedings and arbitration around the worl
 d and for the last 6 years he has been based in Singapore having set up the
  Brookes Bell office there. John is also a supporting member of the LMAA an
 d a member of SCMA  \n Mr. Iain Potter – Partner, Matson Driscoll &amp; Dam
 ico Pte LtdMr. Iain Potter specialises in litigation support and expert wit
 ness assignments, in particular those involving business valuations or comp
 lex loss of profits claims.  He has been instructed as an expert in proceed
 ings before courts and arbitral tribunals in a number of jurisdictions incl
 uding the UK, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Australia and the BVI a
 nd has been appointed as a tribunal expert in an UNCLOS arbitration.  He is
  currently pursuing a number of areas of research, including a PhD with the
  University of Leicester and is overseeing research projects with teams fro
 m the National University of Singapore’s Business School, focussing on shar
 eholder derivative actions and on Singapore-listed companies’ cost of capit
 al.  Iain is a Fellow of the Expert Witness Institute and a founding Commit

 Dr. Tan Teng Hooi is presently an Associate Professor and the Head of the B
