However, the roles and  responsibilities of the expert in preparing a report or giving witness testimony is often misu nderstood or shrouded in mystery.\n This full day course seeks to introduce participants to the world of expert evidence with a focus on patent and IP valuation disputes, whether  in  court  or  before  a  tribunal  (e.g.  in   arbitration proceedings).\n The course will cover:\n \n - What expert ev idence is about, and the general duties and obligations of an expert witnes s \n - Tracks catering to patent law / practice or IP valuation, which will run concurrently \n - Step-by-step overview of the entire process from eng agement to the end of the trial/hearing, with practical guidance on adminis trative aspects  (e.g. contractual agreement and remuneration) Upon comple tion of the course, subject-matter experts who qualify (e.g. Principal Inve stigator/Lead Scientist/Research Group Lead or equivalent, and above) and p rofessional valuers who qualify will be included in a list of technical/val uation experts maintained by IPOS, which parties to a patent or other IP-re lated dispute can consider appointing as an expert witness.
