SUMMARY:Hybrid Format - Collaboration and Clarity: The new SCL(S) Protocol for Expert Joint Statements in Arbitration (28 January 2026, 3.30pm - 4.45pm (GMT+8))
LOCATION:The Boardroom\, Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP\, 9 Straits View\, #06-07 We
st Tower\, Marina One\, Singapore 018937
DESCRIPTION: \nAbout this Seminar\nOn 28 January 2026, Asia Pacific Institute of Expert
s (“APIEx”) and the Society of Construction Law (Singapore) (“SCL(S)”) will
jointly unveil a landmark initiative: the SCL(S) Protocol for the Use of E
xperts’ Joint Statements in Arbitration. \nThis event, chaired by Leslie Ch
ew SC, brings together distinguished panellists Darren Benger, Iain Potter,
and Kelvin Teo, to explore how this new Protocol will shape the way expert
evidence is presented and understood in arbitration proceedings. The impor
tance of this initiative was underscored at the recent SCL(S) Annual Confer
ence in September 2025, where Justice Philip Jeyaretnam, President of the S
ICC, highlighted the critical role of expert witnesses in assisting the dec
ision-maker in complex disputes. He cautioned against “ships passing in the
night”—experts speaking past one another without a common dataset—and emph
asised the need to avoid adding costs without clarity. His observations res
onate strongly with the aims of the Protocol: to avoid wasted time, unneces
sary costs, and fragmented evidence, whilst promoting a level playing field
and enhancing efficiency. The Protocol therefore responds to an observable
need in both Singapore domestic arbitration and Singapore-seated internati
onal arbitrations for the effective management of joint expert evidence. \n
At its core, the Protocol is designed to facilitate collaboration between e
xperts so as to provide practical guidance to assist all stakeholders in ar
bitration —tribunals, counsel, and experts alike. This launch event promise
s to offer participants a first gaze into the crystal ball for how the Prot
ocol may establish best practice for expert collaboration in arbitration, w
ith a view to further strengthening Singapore’s reputation as a hub for eff
icient, fair and principled dispute resolution. We are therefore most pleas
ed to have this esteemed panel of senior practitioners provide their insigh
ts, with a focus on real-world application of the Protocol.\nParticipants m
ay choose to attend this event in person or virtually via Zoom webinar.\nAP
IEx will hold its AGM 2026 following this seminar and APIEx members are off
ered complimentary in-person attendance at the pre-AGM seminar, provided th
